Peggy Harris Shot To Death

A former Murphysboro resident was shot to death Thursday morning in Little Rock, Ark., and her estranged husband has been charged with murder.

Peggy Wayman Harris, 40, of Little Rock was fatally shot at 12:05 a.m. Thursday in a Little Rock tavern, according to Little Rock police.

Her husband, Charlie Harris, 35, is jailed on a charge of murder pending a preliminary hearing Tuesday, police said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harris will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Denny and Pettett funeral home in Murphysboro.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Harris was born Dec. 29, 1935 in Murphysboro to Clarence and Elva Jacobs Wayman.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Howell of Hot Springs, Ark. and Pamela Crech of Little Rock; five sisters, Ella Moore, Mary Calandro, Dorothy Farley and Norma Childers all of Murphysboro, and Betty Waldron of Tulsa, Okla.: and a brother, Robert Wayman of Murphysboro.
