The records below were researched and provided by famed Navy Seal and "Stolen Valor" hunter Don Shipley along with his following narrative:

Fred was a Boatswain Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer Seabee when he began Navy Combat Demolition Team Training after transferring from Williamsburg VA to Ft Pierce Florida on 09/09/1943. His Class was NCDU-94 but I can find no pictures of it. I did find this searching NCDU 94 and plenty of pics of UDT 5 that Fred also served on. Fred departed FT Pierce on 02/28/1944 and traveled to Camp Shoemaker for a ride to Maui Hawaii. Fleet City and World War II: Camp Parks, Camp Shoemaker and Naval Hospital Shoemaker (militarymuseum.org)

I May 1944 he was assigned to UDT 5. UDT5. A year later on 5/21/1945 he went back to California and traveled back to Ft Pierce for temporary duty. On July 19th 1945 he returned to California. The war ended on 02 September 1945. At some point Fred changed his rating to Gunners Mate. The last rank for him was as a First Class Gunners Mate.

I hope that helps.

I would have liked to have known Fred.
