J. A. COPELAND, 78, DIES AT HOME OF MRS. HENRY TYLER
James Alexander Copeland, a resident of this vicinity for almost 40 years, died at 11:30 o’clock Wednesday morning at the home of his stepdaughter, Mrs. Henry Tyler. He had been ill for a long time and was confined to his bed for the four weeks preceding his death. Had he lived until June 10, he would have been 79 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock this Friday afternoon in the Methodist Church here and burial will be made in the Villisca Cemetery. Following his death, Mr. Copeland’s body was taken to the R. C. Pitman home, where it remained until Thursday and was then returned to the Tyler home to await the funeral.
Mr. Copeland was born June 10, 1853 in Jefferson County, Iowa and was one of nine children born to Macklin and Elizabeth Copeland. He was married January 29, 1874 near Knoxville, Iowa to Kate Woods who died April 2, 1909. He moved with his wife to Kansas where they lived three years and then resided in Missouri until 1886 when they moved to Page County, Iowa He has lived in this vicinity nearly forty years.
He was married here September 3, 1910 to Mrs. Hattie Armstrong, who preceded him in death January 7, 1926. For the last six years he has made his home with his step daughter, Mrs. Henry Tyler, and family. He was a member of the Methodist Church and for thirty years he serves as treasurer and librarian of the local Methodist Sunday School.
