Knoxville (Iowa) Journal, 17 May 1917:

Mary Alice Copeland was born January 15, 1843, in Jefferson county, Indiana, and died suddenly at her home at Knoxville, May 14, 1917, aged 74 years, 4 months and 29 days. With her parents she came to Jefferson County, Iowa, in 1845, and in March, 1854, they came to Marion county, settling in the English Settlement east of Knoxville. This was her home until coming to Knoxville twelve years ago.

She was united in marriage November 30, 1865, with David Loynachan who died in May, 1809. To this union were born six sons: Charles Edward, of Lucas county; James Hugh, Franklin Neil, David Macklin, John Elton and William Clarence, all on farms near Knoxville. There are sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Loynachan is survived by four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Anna M. Stone, of Wichita, Kansas: Mrs. Emily A. Townsend of Knoxville, Mrs. Kate Cummings, of Pella, Iowa; Mrs. Lottie Harvey Rittenhouse, of California; James A. Copeland, of Villisca, Iowa, and Charles A. Copeland, of Madison, Missouri.

Mrs. Loynachan accepted Christ as a girl and ever made her faith show in her daily life. She had spent Saturday night with the family of her son, Will, and had come home Sunday evening feeling just as well as usual. On Monday morning it was found that she had just slept her life away. She was a faithful wife, a loving and careful mother, a kind neighbor, and a good friend to all. The sudden loss is very much felt by all who knew her.

Funeral services at the residence at 1 o'clock and at 2:30 p.m., May 16th, Wednesday, at Plymouth church, conducted by Rev. P. W. Jacobson. Interment at Breckenridge cemetery.
