Jessee Burress/Burris was born in Albemarle Co., Virginia abt. 1804, which was a leap year. Jessee was a 66 yr. old Farmer residing in his home in 1870 Census. His youngest dau. Mary Burress 19 yrs old Housekeeping also lived there & so did Charles Kelly an 18 yr old, Farm Laborer. JESSEE LIVED UNTIL AT LEAST AFTER THE JUNE 10, 1870 CENSUS ENUMERATION. He is buried in St. Rose Cemetery. His only wife is Mary Barr (mother of all Jesse's children). She died before the 1870 Census. She was born 23 Feb 1812 in Bourbon Co., Ky. It is most likely that she is the person that died 2 Dec 1868 and she was 56y 9m & 8d of age, at time of her death. No reason, for them not to be buried together, with a common joint headstone & possibly some of their young children of that same cemetery being commemorated on it, as well. See Mary's Find-A-Grave Memorial #183437611. Several of their young children are known to be buried in this cemetery, Per the published work of former transcriber's for this cemetery. There is a lot of information on Jessee & Mary Barr Burress/Burris stone with four sides of the lower part of that (medium to small size) monument, being heavily inscribed. It was not readable to the naked eye, on Oct 2, 2017 when my husband & I went to pay respects & take pictures. Many stones at Saint Rose cemetery are in need of saving from falling, in need of saving from the inscriptions being eaten away by weathering erosion due to the elements of time. Many are in need of saving from horrible build up of mold & fungi.

Also: In the 1870 Census, James Burress/Burriss & his wife, Mary Ann (nee Lawler) & their two sons John T & Peter J lived immediately next door to the household of James' Father, Jessee Burress/Burris of this Find-A-Grave Memorial.

Jessee Burress/Burris' parents are: Thomas Burress/Burris, Sr. b. 1770 & died abt.1843 & Dicey Carden. They were married 17 Dec 1792, in Albemarle Co., Va. Thomas Burress/Burris Sr., must have married a namesake in Carden family that is related to the following 4yr. old by that name, that died in 1774:
The Leodocea Carden that was b. 24 Jun 1770 Goochland Co., Va. & d. Nov 1774 in Goochland, Va. is not anyone's mother & did not marry in 1792.

There is reason to believe that a bride in 1792, name of Dicey Carden who died between 1820 & 1830 is the mother of Thomas Burress/Burris, Sr.'s children all the way through the birth of Thomas, Jr. on 29 Feb 1820 in Indiana. Peter was born 9 Oct 1820. Charles is the last child born in 1822. There is a woman in Joshua, Sr.'s household in the 1830 Census that is in the 40-49yr. age group. That can not be Dicey who married him in 1792, because it would make her 11yrs or younger at time of their marriage. If he had remarried after Dicey's death, that spouse would likely have been named in his Nov 1843 list of heirs, unless she died prior to 1843. If not a wife, possibly a widowed sister may be in his household in 1830 Census.

Jessee Burress/Burris is a brother to Robert Burress 1796-1871, Joshua Burress 1802-1834, Elizabeth (nee Burress) Kyle 1803-1880, Mary Polly (nee Burress) Morgan 1807-1850, Sarah "Sally" (nee Burress) Crouch 1810-1843, Nancy (nee Burress) Stafford 1811-1862, Lucinda (nee Burress/Burris) Canary 1817-1849, Thomas Burress, Jr. b. 29 Feb 1820 & d. 1902, Peter Burress/Burris b. 9 Oct 1820 & d. 1902 and to Charles Burress/Burris 1822- approx. 1868.

Thomas Burress, Jr.'s Death Cert record information (posted by Ancestry member bobbydorsey125 on 07 Feb 2013) gives that his father is Thomas Burress & his mother is Disie Cardon (spelled in the record, as such).

No spouse was named in Thomas Burress/Burris Sr.'s 1843 list of heirs. On that Nov 1843 list, he is named as Thomas Burress, with his oldest son Robert Burress as Administrator.
His son Joshua Burress is named as the father of minor grandchildren that are to inherit. Joshua's widow & mother of his children, Mariah is named.

In the 1830 Census, Thomas Burress/Burris, Sr. enumerated by name of Joshua Burrows (should be corrected to Burress/Burris) & his son Joshua is enumerated as Joshua Burrows, Jr. (should be Burress/Burris). There are family members on that 1830 Census page & on 1840 Census page, that help to identify Thomas Burress/Burris, Sr. as also being the Joshua Burress/Burris, Sr. of the 1830 Census. His name may be Thomas Joshua Burress/Burris, Sr. or Joshua Thomas Burress/Burris, Sr..

In the 1840 Census the elder Thomas & his son Thomas are being identified as Tho Burris, Sr. & Tho Burris, Jr. (who is now 20 yrs. old & married). They should still be seen as Burress/Burris as their surname was in the process of undergoing a permanent change for many of their descendants. Thomas Burress/Burris Jr.'s older brother Joshua Burress/Burris, Jr. b. abt. 1802 had passed away, abt. 1834. He has a list of heirs & and an administrator, Matthew Kyle. Joshua Jr.'s wife Mariah, remarried in 1835.

In the 1840 Census, Thomas Burress/Burris, Sr. was 70-79. He would of had to be right at 70 yrs. old. or he should of been in the 60-69 yr. range. He was born right around 1770.
