His tombstone gives his parents surname as Burress & does not have Burruss on it. The Burress family surname is Burress and in their lifetime, that surname underwent several changes. Some kept Burress. Some adopted Burriss. Most of the surnames then changed to Burris. Their surname has also been misspelled as Burrass, Burreffs, Burruss & so on.
