A banker and farmer, Oscar Anderson served as representative to the Iowa state legislature from Decatur County (District 6) from January 12, 1925 to January 9, 1927. Born in LaSalle county, Illinois, when two months old he moved with his parents to a farm in Decatur County near Lamoni, and resided in that county for the rest of his life. He attended Lamoni High School, and graduated from Highland Park College in Des Moines. He taught school in Lamoni for three years, and then became a cashier of the State Savings Bank of Lamoni, having been connected with the bank since its organization on July 1, 1898. He farmed in the county and was elected mayor of Lamoni in 1920, serving a two-year term. His other civic offices included memberships on the Lamoni school board and chairmanship of the Decatur County hospital board. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a Republican in politics.

He married Ella Belle Kelley on June 28, 1906. Besides the children shown below under "Family Links," the couple had another son:
