Wallace, fifth son of John & Jane (Lockart) Coburn from County Armagh in Northern Ireland, was born and educated in Philadelphia, PA.

In 1883, still single, Wallace moved with remaining family and nephew William to Saline County, Kansas. Here he worked with his father, John, as a brick maker. About 1888 Wallace returned to Philadelphia and obtained work as a driver. By 1890 he was living with his mother's nephews John & William Lockart on Kingsessing Ave.

Wallace died in 1891 and is buried with his brothers John, Jr. & Joseph Coburn in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
