In 1883, still single, Wallace moved with remaining family and nephew William to Saline County, Kansas. Here he worked with his father, John, as a brick maker. About 1888 Wallace returned to Philadelphia and obtained work as a driver. By 1890 he was living with his mother's nephews John & William Lockart on Kingsessing Ave.
Wallace died in 1891 and is buried with his brothers John, Jr. & Joseph Coburn in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
