Youngest son of John & Jane (Lockart) Coburn, Samuel was born, raised and educated in Philadelphia County, PA. Near Cobb Creek, 68th St. & Kingsessing Ave. In 1884 at the age of 18, he moved to Saline County, Kansas with his family.
Samuel died suddenly in 1887 while playing with his nephews in his father's farm house. Samuel died of burst appendix. He lived 21 years, 3 months, 8 days.
Samuel was buried with his mother, sister Jane, and brother James in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
