PETTY--Van Alvin Petty III, age 74, of San Antonio, died Friday, March 24, 1989. Born in San Antonio on August 18, 1914, he was the son of Van Alvin Petty, Jr., and Estelle Edna (George) Petty. He spent a short period with Petty Geophysical Engineering Company before entering the University of Texas from which he graduated with the B.S. and M.A. degrees, majoring in geology. He married Maxine Lambert, and after experience with the Navarro Oil Company and Union Producing Company, he rejoined Petty in 1942 as Vice President and Director and remained with them until 1955 when he resigned to become an independent consultant. He was a member of the South Texas Geological Society, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and Sigma Gamma Epsilon. He is an associate member of Sigma Xi and the Scientific Research Society of America. He is listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who;s Whoi in Finance and Industry and Personalities of the South. Mr. Petty was a member of the Episcopal Church of Reconciliation, the San Antonio Petroleum club, and the Business Men's Dinner Club. Suvivors: Wife, Maxine Petty; daughters, Patricia Zinsmeyer, San Antonio, Maxine Kenney, Boerne, and Christine Pa, Kauai, Hawaii; grandchildren, Leslie Triesch, Van Allan Zinsmeyer, Kimberly Pa, Chauncey Pa, Chadry Pa, Cynthia Kenney, and Wesley Kenney; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Estelle Petty and Reagan S. Tucker, Jr., San Antonio.
The service is Tuesday at 11 A.M. in Porter Loring Chapel, the Rev. Sam Todd officiating. Interment in Mission Burial Park South. Pallbearers are: Bill Belton, John Harris, Raymond Thrailkill, Ozzie Thrailkill, Norman Fritzie, Louis Davis, Kemp Solcher and Ed Starr.
