From Mission Parks Funeral Chapels:

The Angels took home one of their own, when Mary Estelle Petty Tucker passed away peacefully on July 14, 2015. She was born on February 15, 1913 in the home of her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Van A. Petty Sr. This historical home, located on the banks of The San Antonio River on 10th Street, is affectionately referred to by the family as "The Big House". It is now the oldest Veterans of Foreign Wars post in The State of Texas.

She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Van A. Petty, Jr. Her father was one of the founders of The Petty Geophysical Engineering Company. She married Reagan S. Tucker, Jr. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio, Texas on June 20, 1939. On their honeymoon, they went on a cruise to Havana, Cuba. They lived in Corpus Christi, TX until World War II, when her husband joined the Army. While in Officer Candidate School, they lived at Camp Monroe, North Carolina. When her husband was sent overseas as an Army officer in the European campaign, Mary Estelle put her artistic skills to work for the Army map service and also as a Red Cross volunteer in San Antonio, TX.

Mary Estelle was an accomplished artist. After Graduation from Main Avenue High School, she attended North Texas College for Women in Denton, Texas and graduated in 1934, from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, formerly known as Westmoreland College. She advanced her art education by attending the prestigious Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, CA.
She worked tirelessly for many charitable groups and civic organizations. She served as President of the Gov. Richard Preston Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Chi Omega Mother's Club, and the first president of the San Antonio Petroleum Auxiliary. She served on the State Boards of the Colonial Dames and the San Antonio Conservation Society. She was Secretary of the Bexar County Historical committee and was voted by The Express News as "Woman of the Year" in 1975. She was a member of the Magna Charta Dames, Ladies of the Thistle, San Antonio Women's club, San Antonio Council of Presidents, Ol' Shavano Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Art League, Tuesday Music Musical Club, Women's Breakfast Club, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, Albert Sidney Johnston Chapter of The Daughters of the Confederacy and the Knife and Fork Club.

She was a member of the Second Church of Christian Science. Being a Christian Scientist, Mary Estelle's motto was: "hold the right thought and maintain a positive attitude!"

Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Anna, her beloved husband of 56 years, Reagan and her brother, Van A. Petty III, whom she always called Bover. She is survived by her daughter Mary E. Huff, and husband, Rodney Huff of Helotes, TX, her son, Reagan Stafford Tucker III of San Antonio, TX, three grandchildren: Heather Huff Boyle, and her husband Brian, Chad Huff and his wife DeAnna , Ryan White, and great-grandchildren: Harlee Huff, Sterling Huff,
Macey Boyle, Presley Boyle and Scarlet Boyle.

Mary Estelle loved to travel and upon graduation from Trinity University, she embarked on a five month round the world adventure tour by steamship in 1934. It was during this tour, as a single woman, that she was exposed to many culturally enriching experiences. It marked a defining time in her life, and many of her paintings reflected the pre-modern world she saw during her trip. It sparked her life-long passion for travel that both she and her husband enjoyed throughout their lives together.

She was a beautiful woman and appreciated the beauty in nature which can be seen in her paintings. She loved to collect works of art from all over the world and decorated her home with many lovely artifacts. She loved social events and birthday parties. Mary Estelle was truly a lady with a gentle, positive, unassuming and graceful personality. She lived a long and healthy life. Her kind smile, her pretty blue eyes and her cheerful attitude will be deeply missed by her family, friends and caregivers at The Forum at Lincoln Heights.
