Thelma M. Winchester, 73, of Oxford, IN died at Franciscan Health, St. Elizabeth Central in Lafayette, IN. 8:43 PM Sunday February 19, 2012 where she had been a patient the past 2 weeks.

Thelma was born in Coopersville, KY. January 19, 1939, the daughter of the late Quincy John and Delia Bell Slavens, and had resided most all of her life in Oxford.

She married Hubert E. Winchester in July, 1960, and he died February 9, 2001.

Thelma was last employed as a custodian for the Benton Central School Corporation the past 4 years, and enjoyed gardening, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Linda Winchester of Lafayette, IN; Lela Winchester of Oxford, IN; 2 sons, Leslie Winchester of San Mateo, CA; R.J. Slavens of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Lynnette Lanning (husband Ken) of Sacramento, CA; Tiffany Roma (husband Mike) of Naperville, IL; Meredith and John Winchester, both of San Mateo, CA; great-grandchildren, Kendall and Kellan Lanning of Sacramento, CA.; 2 sisters, Reba Watson of West Lafayette, IN.; Pauline Anderson of Pine Village, IN.; 2 brothers, Ron and Don Slavens both of Fowler, IN. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Bob, Clifford, Cecil and Wendell Slavens, by a sister, Ruby Daniels, and a grandson, Charles M. Kincaid.

Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Oxford, from 9:30 AM until the service at 11:00 AM Thursday, Larry McMillan officiating. Interment to follow at Oxford West Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be left at www.hahngroeberfuneralhome.com.
