Ronald Bruce "Big Babe" Slavens, Sr., 65, of Fowler, IN, passed away at Green Hill Manor at 4:10 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Born April 1, 1949 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late John Quincy and Delia (Bell) Slaven. Ron honorably served in the National Guard.
He married Maryann Burk on September 18, 1980 in Oxford. Ron was a forklift driver and loaded trucks for Benton County Hybrid and Lowe Seed Companies. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, horse- shoes, basketball, and his dog, "Sugar".
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Bruce Slaven Jr. of Indianapolis and Randy L. Slaven of Fowler, two step-sons, Jason Lynn Borders of Macon, MO and Douglas Wayne Borders of Kirksville, MO, two sisters, Pauline Anderson of Pine Village and Reba Watson of Sheridan, IN and a brother, Donald Slaven of Pine Village. Four grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter Crystal Lynne Slaven, four brothers, Cliff, Bob, Wendell, and Cecil Slaven, and two sisters, Ruby Daniels and Thelma Winchester.
