Former Resident Died February 9 1947

R.L. (Reuben Lapolin) Stevens, a well known Madison County Man, passed away, Sunday, February 9, 1947 in Wayne Co. after a long illness of a complication of diseases.
He was the son of the late Hosea and Catherine (nee Redmond) Stevens, born Feb. 29, 1876, in the Mt Pisgah Cemetery of Zion, Mo.
He was married to Miss Lemma Kennedy, also of Zion. To this union were born three children, two having preceded him in death in infancy.
Mr. and Mrs. Stevens lived in Madison County for a number of years, and were well known to the prosperous farmers. They are years, and were was well known to also remembered as being very active in the church and community welfare.
Mr.Stevens accepted Christ in his youth, and joined the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. About 28 years ago he and his family moved to Piedmont, Mo.,and moved his membership there where he remained a faithful member until the end, being a Senior Deacon, also a Sunday School Superintendent.
He leaves his devoted wife, one son-in-law and one grandson, serving in the Marines; also one sister, Mrs. J.L. (James Lafayette) Whitener, Zion.
The nephews and nieces of Madison County that attended his funeral. Wednesday at Piedmont were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stevens and son, Keith and daughter, Mrs. Dale Berry; and Earl, Carl, and Nola Whitener.
The funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. White, assisted by Rev. P.A. Abernathy.
