WORKMAN KILLED BY MACHINE IN PLYMOUTH SHOP

Charles Mentzel Of Bremen Crushed Under Tumbler In Foundry; No Witness Saw Plymouth Tragedy

Charles Mentzel, forty years old, a resident of this community all his life, was killed instantly Friday afternoon at the Argos Foundry in Plymouth, where he was employed. Mentzel was caught in some way by a tumbler in the mill room of the foundry. He had been helping Floyd Morgan fill the tumbler and the two had put the lid on the machine. Morgan turned away for a moment. When he looked back toward Mentzel, the machine was running and Mentzel was under it on the floor, his head crushed. No explanation could be offered as to how the accident had occurred, but it was reported that a safety bar in front of the machine had not been put in place.

The body was brought to the Huff Funeral Home in Bremen, where it remained until Monday afternoon, when funeral services were held in Grace United Brethren church. Rev E C Reidenbach officiated in the funeral service. Burial was in the Bremen cemetery.

Mentzel was a son of Mr and Mrs Gustave Mentzel and was born near Bremen March 28, 1900.

He was united in marriage with Miss Leah Leeper on May 22, 1922.

She survives with their four children, Dale Charles, Blanche Elizabeth, Noble Dean and Betty Lou, all at home. He leaves also his mother, Mrs. Gustave Mentzel; three sisters, Mrs Arthur Hardy and Mrs Glen Zillmer of Bremen and Mrs John Kzyski of Mishawaka; and one half-sister, Mrs Herman Hess of New Holstein, Wis.
