He moved to Joplin in 1901.
In 1927, he married Meta (Horton) Routledge, who survives.
He operated a bakery in Joplin until retiring.
Surviving, besides his widow, are three sons, Loran A. Brotherton, Everett Brotherton, and Robert H. Brotherton, all of Joplin, A brother, Homer Brotherton of Joplin; three sisters, Mrs. Everett Russell of Redings Mill, Mrs. Anna Hindman of Joplin, and Mrs. Lula Wood of Seneca.
