Hazel is the daughter of Herman and Ethel George.

Her siblings are: Ray, Ross, Vernon and Joan.

She married Paul Porter on July 27, 1935 and together they had a daughter: Evelyn June Porter.

Ruby "Hazel" Porter, 90, formerly of Goff, died Monday, February 19, 2007 at a care facility in Holton. She was born May 28, 1916 in Cleora, OK the daughter of Herman Oscar and Ethel Whittle George. She lived in Jay OK until 12 years of age then moved with the family to Horton and thereafter lived in Whiting, Granada, Fostoria and back to Granada. She married Paul Marion Porter on July 27, 1935 in Holton and they lived west of Wetmore for many years before moving to Goff in 1971. Hazel has made her home in Holton since June of 1990. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Holton, Bridge Clubs in both Holton and Goff for many years and a past member of the Goff Methodist Church.
Paul preceded her in death on December 1, 1974. She was also preceded by a sister Joan George and 3 brothers Vernon, Ray, and Ross George.
Survivors include a son Roy Porter and his wife Donna of Holton; a daughter Evelyn Lierz and her husband Leonard of Wetmore; 5 sisters Marjorie McDaniel of Centralia, Madine Fernkopf of Holton, Jean Smith of Spokane, WA, Ludema Scott of Harrodsburg, KY, Lucille Kirk of Sabetha; a brother Duane George of Sabetha; 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in the Wetmore Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Holton Community Hospital Hospice sent c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, Kansas 66436.
