Madene Fernkopf, 93, of Holton, KS, passed away, Friday, February 3, 2023 at Medicaloge Jackson County. She was born June 22, 1929 in Whiting, KS, the daughter of Herman and Lura Ethel (Whittle) George.

Madene graduated from Wetmore High School in 1947. She was a wife, mom, grandma and homemaker most of her life. Madene was a 30 plus years Avon Representative.

She was a member of the Holton Evangel Church-teaching Sunday School for over 20 years, a member of OES for over 50 years and former member of Holton Business Women.

Madene married Eugene Max Fernkopf on December 25, 1948 in Elkhart, KS; they celebrated over 59 years of marriage before his passing on April 28, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lura George; 5 sisters, Hazel Porter, Marjorie McDaniel, Jean Hallin, Lucille Kirk and Joan George and 3 brothers, Ray, Ross and Vernon George.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Robert Fernkopf (Robin) of Holton, KS and Steven Fernkopf (Robyn) of Tucson, AZ; 1 sister, Ludema Scott of Harrodsburg, KY; 1 brother, Dwane George of Basehor, KS; 2 granddaughters, Emily Caudle (Tyler) and Lura Goff (Dustin) both of Holton, KS and 5 great-grandchildren, Jaelyn, Ian, Beau, Jax and Cullen.

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Holton Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Holton Community Hospital Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
