Son of John Alexander Claiborne and Elizabeth Adelaide Taylor. He was nicknamed "Jack" to distinguish him from his father John. In 1888, he suffered a severe injury in a logging accident, and lost his leg. On October 24, 1894 he married Anna Baird (1866-1925), daughter of Robert H. and Fannie Grider Baird, and they had children Irene Baird Claiborne (1895-1933) and Louis/Lewis Taylor Claiborne (1901-1969). They spent time in Bolivar, and then ran a dairy farm outside Jackson, Madison County Tennessee. His father John, youngest brother Bill lived with him until 1918 when John A. Claiborne died, and William A. Claiborne joined the Army. May 9, 1927 he married May Parrott Martin, (daughter of John H. and Fannie Parker Parrott and widow of Raymond Martin)in Haywood County, Tennessee. She and her four daughters and divorced brother Fred Battle Claiborne lived on the dairy farm 1930. Jack Claiborne died 1936, and was buried with his wife Anna Baird and family in Tabernacle.
