RICHMOND – LaVon Ward Albert, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Jan. 15, 2012 in a Richmond hospital.

Mrs. Albert was born July 9, 1927, in Fremont, Neb., the only child of John James Ward and Marie McFadden Ward.

The family moved to Virginia in 1944, where Mrs. Albert graduated from Pulaski High School in 1945 and began a 30-year career with C&P Telephone Co., first as an operator and then as a customer service representative in Pulaski, Radford and Blacksburg. Mrs. Albert, her husband and her mother moved to Richmond in 1998 where she spent 13 happy years at St. Mary's Woods. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harry Landis Albert.

She is survived by her daughter, Jonda Albert Taylor and son-in-law, Larry; her grandsons, Brian Taylor and wife, Christine, and Adam Taylor and wife, Julie; and by her great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Alyson and Brendon.

Mrs. Albert will be remembered for her strong faith, her love of her family, her ladylike manner, and her pleasant personality and kindness to all she met. Her family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary's Woods for their many years of kind and compassionate care, and also the staff of the Laurels at University Park and the Hospice of Virginia Unit at Retreat Hospital for their care during the last weeks and days of her life.

A memorial service will be held at Gayton Road Christian Church in Richmond Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held that evening from 6-8 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home in Pulaski, where the funeral service will be held Thursday Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Deborah Carlton and the Rev. Pamela Clark-Egan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital or a favorite children's charity. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.seaglefuneralhome.com.
