Father Keaney was assigned to Taiwan following his ordination in 1955 and spent his entire missionary career there. He served several years in parish work and also served as director of the Maryknoll language school in Taichung during the 1960s. He then was pastor of the Taichung diocesan Cathedral of Christ the Savior for more than 30 years. He retired in 2000 but continued to reside in Taiwan until 2003, when he returned to the United States to take up residence at Mission St. Teresa.
Born in Arlington, Mass., he entered Maryknoll in 1946 and professed his final vows in 1954. He held a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Maryknoll Seminary.
Three sisters, Sister Carole Marie Keaney, O.S.U., and Ellen and Mary Keaney, survive him. A brother, Msgr. James Keaney, died in October.
A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 14 at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Chapel in Ossining. Burial followed at the Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
