Billerica - John B. Keany, of 341 Boston RD, Billerica, died today at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. He was 85 years of age. Born in Arlington May 26, 1893 the son of Philip C. and Mary (Haggerty) Keaney, and had been a resident of Billerica for the past 44 years. He was the husband of the late Mary L. (Donnelly) Keaney who predeceased him Oct 3, 1965.
He was a graduate of Abington High School, and attended Burdette College in Boston. He was a retired employee of the Massachusets Wharf Coal Co. in Allston. He was formerly the Postmaster of Billerica, and was also a principal assessor for the town of Billerica. He was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church in Billerica, member of the Holy Name Society, He was also a member of the Harold Wren Nights of Columbus in Billerica. He was also a World War I veteran, and was a member of the Massachusetts Assessors Association.
He is survived by his five sons, Phillip P. Keaney of Piston PA, Fr. James P. Keaney of Raliegh NC, Fr. John B. Keaney MM, of Taiwan, Hugh F. Keaney of Chelmsford, and Francis X. Keaney of Lynn; Three daughters Ellen K. Keaney of Billerica, Mary P. Keaney of Chelmsford, and Sr. Carol Keaney OSU of Indonesia; two sisters Elizabeth McHugh of Needham, and Sr. M. Patricia Keaney of Dedham; and 12 grandchildren.
