A native of Irwin County, Butch had lived in Albany for 47 years. He graduated from Irwin County High School in 1955 and then he attended ABAC. He retired as a sales representative with Triangle Chemical Company. He was an active member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as past president of the Key Sunday School Class, past president of United Methodist Men, past delegate to the South Georgia United Methodist Conference, member of the Activities Planning Committee, and served as an usher for the 8:30 service. Butch was a member of The Exchange Club of Albany, serving as an officer at the local, state and national levels. He won the Exchange Club's Exchangite of the Year Award, the Book of Golden Deeds Award, and the National Exchange Court of Honor. He served as Livestock Chairman for the Exchange Club's Fair for over 30 years. He received both Georgia and Internatinal "Fair Man of the Year" awards. Butch volunteered his time in cooking for many organizations throughout the state. He was active in Vashti, a center for troubled youth and their families in Thomasville, GA. He had served as past president and chairman of the board. He received the first "Butch Griffin Humanitarian Award" from Vashti. Butch had received the Service to Mankind Award from the Albany Sertoma Club. He received the Georgia Crop Production Alliance Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame Award. Butch was preceded in death by his parents: Arthur and Sophronie Paulk Griffin, his siblings: Clarence Griffin, Waldo Griffin, Raymond Griffin, Dorothy G. Mizelle, Mildred G. Davis, Helen G. Cumbaa and Arthur Griffin, Jr.

He is survived by his wife: Kathryn "Kay" Griffin, Albany; three children: Wesley Griffin and his wife Laura, Albany, Loy Griffin Addison and her husband Billy, Albany, Paul Griffin and his wife Janie, Fitzgerald; five grandchildren: Lyla Griffin, Harper Addison, Baylee Addison, all of Albany, Duston Griffin and his wife Lane, St. Mary's, GA, Garrett Griffin and his wife Abby, Ocilla, GA; three great grandchildren: Brody Griffin, Katie Griffin, St. Mary's, GA, Rhett Griffin, Ocilla, GA; a brother, Wycliffe Griffin and his wife Ann, Ocilla, GA, a sister, Wydene G. Tomberlin, Ocilla, GA; a sister-in-law, Myra S. Griffin, Ocilla, GA; father and mother-in-law, Ira and Maxie Harper, Douglas, GA.
