Everett Preston Abney, age 97, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Berea Health Care. He was born in Rockcastle County on December 23, 1914 to the late Morgan and Ida Abney. Mr. Abney was a retired farmer, a member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Abney is survived by: his sons, Preston (Linda) Abney of Berea, Jimmy (Lisa) Abney of Richmond, Lee Abney of Berea, Vernon (Martha) Abney of Berea, Lewis Abney of Louisville, Doug (Debbie) Abney of Berea, Mitchell Abney of Paint Lick; his daughters, Mary (J. B.) Combs of Chatsworth, Georgia, Allie (Ray) Wood of Rockcastle County, Sarah (Roy) Combs of Paint Lick, Kay Abney of Jackson Co; his brother, Cecil Abney of Rockcastle County; his sisters, Evelyn Bullens and Eulah Abney, both of Berea. 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren also survive. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Mae Abney; his son, Bluford Abney; a grandson, Mike Quinley, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Abney will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Davis & Powell Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Livingood officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis-Witt Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. His sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
