Funeral services for Edith C. Bender, 86, were held Wednesday morning, July 31, at First Presbyterian church, with burial at Oakwood cemetery. Rev. W. Willis Longer officiated.
Mrs. Bender died at Senior Home Monday, July 29, after being confined the past five weeks with a fractured hip.
She was born in Monticello Dec. 18, 1887 to Issac and Lousie Haeussler Schneider and received her early education in the Monticello schools. She graduated from the high school in 1905.
On Jan 8, 1910, she married James C. Bender in Minneapolis, Minn. The couple lived in South Dakota and Oklahoma before returning to make their home in Monticello the past 55 years.
Mrs. Bender was a member of First Presbyterian church and a Gold Star Mother of the Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, James A. and Paul R. both of Monticello, and Ralph W. Tustin, Cal.; six daughters, Mrs. Merwin (Mary) Holscher of Huntington Beach, Cal., Mrs. C.L. (Ruth) Burris of Davenport, Mrs. R.V. Heerts of New Hartford, Mrs. Jack (Fern) Harris of Ontario, Cal., Mrs. Thomas (Jean) Melton of Independence, Mo. and Mrs. Charles (Kathryn) Clark of Monticello.
Also surviving Mrs. Bender are 34 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and a brother Carl Schneider, Monticello.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles; three sisters and four brothers.
