Ms. Pauline Blackburn Small, age 95, died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Loris Extended Care Facility following an illness. Born September 15, 1915 in Loris, SC she was the daughter of the late Mr. Charlie Vaston Blackburn and the late Mrs. Nettie Lugenia Harrelson Blackburn.
Ms. Small lived in Loris, SC and Wilmington, NC during her early years. She then moved to California where she was employed by Hartford Insurance Company for 18 years. Upon retiring she moved to North Myrtle Beach where she became friends and worked with the E. W. Prince, Jr. family in their antique business, which she dearly loved. Later, she made her home in Loris where she was a faithful member of Loris First Baptist Church and an active member of her Sunday school class.
Survivors include her daughter: Shirley Landers; four grandchildren: Mike, Linda, Suellen and Cindy; ten great-grandchildren; two half sisters: Estelle Castillo of Valrico, Florida, and Joanne Kerr and husband Ed of Rocky Point, NC; one half brother: Bill Blackburn and wife Kay of Dallas, Texas; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Ms. Small was predeceased by four brothers: Guy, Clio, Leroy and C. V. Blackburn Jr.; her sister: Lena Violet Rogers; her step-mother: Balzoria Grainger Blackburn; three half brothers: Gene Austin, Jack, and Paul; and one half sister Ida Mable Cox.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with committal services following at Princeville cemetery. Dr. Larry Turner will officiate services. Visitation will be from 1:30 until 3:00 prior to services on Sunday.
