FLORENCE - Jacob Barron Ervin, 83, of Florence died December 27 at his home on Pocket Road.

He was born in Florence County, son of the late Samuel Fulton and Jane Barron Ervin. He is survived by his wife Susann Finklea Ervin, his son Jacob Barron Ervin Jr. (Jennifer), a daughter Annie Ervin Ham (Jay) and three grandchildren. He is also survived by a twin brother Samuel Fulton Ervin of Florence, a brother William C. Ervin of Darlington and a sister Martha Adams Ervin of Florence.

He was pre-deceased by siblings Elizabeth Ervin Clarkson, Janet Barron Ervin and James Rion Ervin.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 28, from 6 to 8 at the home, 201 West Pocket Road, Florence. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 29 at 11AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Florence directed by Belk Funeral Home.

A graduate of McClenaghan High School, Mr. Ervin also received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and was a partner in Ervin Engineering of Florence. Prior to this he served in the U.S. Army as part of the army of occupation of Japan.

He was a former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence. A talented local artist, he enjoyed painting throughout his lifetime.
