Lucy Dowell Denson, 83
Lucy Dowell Denson, 83, of Stanford, died Tuesday, Jan. 22 at her home.
A native of Lincoln County, she was born July 16, 1924 to the late Leonard and Mary E. Oaks Dowell. She was a homemaker, member of Ephesus Baptist Church, and enjoyed quilting, crafting and gardening.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, James, Freddie "Poncho", and Mark Denson; one grandson; and six brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie Denson of Stanford; five sons, Hank Ruth of Crab Orchard and Charles Joe Denson, Harold Denson, Eugene Denson, and Ricky Denson, all of Stanford; four daughters, Loretta Edwards, Patsy Annie Hines and Janie Taylor, all of Stanford and Gladys Smith of Waynesburg; two sisters, Bernice Britton and Elsie Moore both of Waynesburg; 36 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren, seven great, great grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
Funeral services were Jan. 25 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford with Revs. Terry Holt, Ben Curtis, Cecil Roundtree, and Jason Coulter officiating. Burial was in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeff, Wayne, Evan, and David Denson, Chris and Jim Bob Taylor, Jacob Greene, and Phillip Smith. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters.
