1934-2010

WAYNESBURG - Vernice Dowell Britton, 76, of Waynesburg passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born on Sunday, July 15, 1934, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Lenard and Mary Oaks Dowell. Vernice was the widow of Clarence, she was a homemaker, a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church and attended Olive Baptist Church.
Vernice leaves behind her sons, Homer Lee Britton and his wife Brenda of Waynesburg and William Clarence Britton and his wife Diana of Louisville; a daughter, Mary Oaks and her husband David of Waynesburg; a sister, Elsie Moore of Waynesburg; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Vernice was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Edward Faulkner; brothers, Henry, Jimmy, William, Homer, Ted, Lenard Junior, Ray and Delbert Britton; and a sister, Lucy Denson.
Services for Vernice will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bros. Wayne Stevens and Bert Hall officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home.
Memorials are preferred to go to Alzheimer's Foundation.
