Delbert Horney, 87, of Knoxville, passed away on May 18, 2010 at his home. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday May 21, 2010 at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown, Iowa. Williams Funeral Home of Knoxville is in charge of the arrangements.
Delbert was born on January 11, 1923 in Leon, Iowa to Edwin and Pearl (McLain) Horney. He grew up in Leon and graduated from Leon High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy during W.W.II where he served in the Seabees.
After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, Delbert began working for Wright Tree Service where he served as a supervisor. He retired in 1978. Delbert then began wintering in Arizona and summering in Montana.
He loved fishing, hunting and camping. Delbert moved to Knoxville in 2003 to be closer to his family.
He was a former member of the Grimes Lions Club, Knoxville American Legion and the NRA.
Delbert is survived by his sisters, Jenoise Buckalew and husband Paul of Grimes, IA: Nadine Beller of Knoxville, IA; brothers, Charles Horney and wife Ola of Newton, IA; and Oliver (Junior) Horney of Laurel, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
