John F SKELLENGER was the third son born to Jacob Aaron and Elizabeth Fauver Schellinger of Bridgeton, New Jersey. John F is believed to have served one 5 year enlistment in the US Army, Co D, 8th US Infantry, from about 1866 to 1871. Upon returning to civilian life, John F married Emma Mason in Bridgeton, NJ ca. 1872; they had two children together: John Thomas Skellenger (1873-1959) and Charles Skellenger (1876-1877). Emma Mason Skellenger died ca. 1877.
Following the death of his wife, John F removed to Chicago, IL and remained there for several years. On 5 Jan 1887, he married Anna Rachael Wood of Ironton, Lawrence, Ohio; they were believed to have married in that same city. John F and Anna eventually moved to the city of Dayton, OH and spent their remaining years there until John F's death in 1920. The records of Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, OH, indicate they had one child, a daughter, Vetrice, who did not survive to adulthood; all three family members are buried in this cemetery.
