At age 5, before the beginning of the Civil War, Ezekiel's family moved to Sumter County, Florida. When his father joined the Confederacy and left for the war, his mother, Sarah moved their family back to Bulloch County, Georgia.
On Mar 3, 1880 Ezekiel married Mary Alice Phillips. They lived in Sink Hole, Bulloch County, Georgia and were married 55 years before his death in 1935.
They had 12 children together:

Mary Alice 'Allie' b 1897, married Wiiliam Troy Kennedy

Ezekiel and his wife Mary Alice both lost their fathers during the Civil War. Ezekiel's father died of pneumonia in 1863, in a hospital in Richmond, Virginia. The family never knew what happened to him. Mary Alice's father was captured after a battle and died in a Yankee prison at Elmira, New York in 1865.
Ezekiel and Mary Alice were members of the Deloach Primitive Baptist Church and are buried in the graveyard there.
