Robert was the second husband of Emily Josephine "Josie" (Borland) Holverstott McVay Ward (1860-1927). Robert and Josie were married on November 3, 1892 in Hardin County, Ohio. Robert's first wife was Eliza Jane (Hamlin) McVay (1843-1891). Robert and Eliza were married on June 12, 1859 in Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio. Robert was the son of Isaac Newton McVay and Belinda (West) McVay. He was the father of at least eight children with Eliza including: Harlan, Lorne, John, Earl, Harry, Robert, Stanley and an infant daughter.
