Mrs. Beatrice Beasley Ellis, age 89, a life long resident of Bulloch County, passed away Sunday, November 20th, 2011 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. Mrs. Ellis was well loved and respected by all who knew her. She and her late husband, John Paul Ellis, were life long farmers as well as owning and operating Ellis Food Store for over sixty years in Hopeulikit where they were they cornerstone of their community. John Paul was her everything and she poured that same love on her children and grandchildren. She was known as a gracious and giving lady. Her simple, yet profound philosophy for a happy fulfilling life - "You'll never be poor while you have a loving family around you." She was most happy in her garden where she had a passion for tending to her flowers and rose garden. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John Paul Ellis.
Surviving are her children, John Wendell and Pam Ellis of Hopeulikit, Janice and Johnny (Boss) Lanier of Twin City, Grayson and Becky Ellis, Connie and David Mathis, John Paul Jr. and Janice Ellis of Hopeulikit; 13 grandchildren, Sonia (Ozzie) Fail, Wendi (Glen) Womack, Layna (Joshua) Medlinger, John Wendell (Jay) Ellis, William (Meredith) Calcote, John J. Lanier, Jana (David) Dominy, Tara Ellis, Benji Ellis, Marc Ellis, Andy (Angela) Rice, Matt Mathis, Jason (Mandy) Ellis and Jamey Ellis; 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 2:00pm at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Osborne officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her Grandsons: Jay Ellis and William Calcote; Joey Lanier; Benji and Marc Ellis; Andy Rice and Matt Mathis; Jason and Jamey Ellis.
