Edwin Nestor Edin was born November 16, 1900, in Bayfield Co., WI on the family homestead to Andrew Peter and Emma Erika (Lund) Edin. The family moved to Sandstone, MN in 1903 or 1904 so the children could attend school.

Edwin says that his mother Emma was descended from prosperous French Huguenots who followed Calvin, had large tract of land in Picardy, France, in turn, part of the Rhine delta.

Edwin graduated at the top of his class of 21 from Sandstone, MN High School and gave the commencement address in his first pair of long pants (at age 15).

Edwin married Ethel Emilia Carlson 13 Jun 1933 in Pine County, Minnesota. He and Ethel had one son, Andrew Erik (Andy), who was born in 1937.

Edwin and Ethel loved to travel. They went to Sweden to see their Swedish family and to Antarctica in 1969. Ethel passed away in 1972, and Ed continued to live in his home in Pine City until he had to go to the local nursing home.

Edwin continued to love to travel, and in 1991 he went to the North Pole on a Russian Nuclear icebreaker, the Sovetskiy Soyuz. He went back to Antarctica in November 1992.

Like his father before him, Ed loved hunting and fishing, but especially hunting. He continued to go hunting in Wyoming with his son Andy and other family members and friends until the last couple of years of his life.
