YORKTOWN--Hawsie Brown Penn, 85, of York County and formerly of Perrin, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at Mary Immaculate Hospital following a brief illness.

She was a 1935 graduate of the Elizabeth Buxton School of Nursing and a member of the Alumni Association. Mrs. Penn was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Tabb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earle Penn. She is survived by three daughters, Sylvia Radcliffe, and her husband, John, of Seaford, Sandra Hogge, and her husband, Elliott, of Achilles, Susan Rhyne, and her husband, Dewayne, of Grafton; seven grandchildren, Kathryn R. Sayers of Lexington, S.C., Cindy Radcliffe and Andrea H. Blake, both of Gloucester, Amy Radcliffe of Seaford, Jeff Hogge of Perrin and Sarah Tidwell and Kimberly Rhyne of Grafton; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. in Gloucester Point Cemetery with the Revs. Joe Carson, F. Davis Holliday and Carlton Heywood officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. At other times, the family will be at Mrs. Penn's residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth Buxton School of Nursing, Scholarship Fund c/o Ms. Dorothy Turner, 1051 Willow Green Drive, Newport News, Va. 23602.
