HAYES -- Earlin Rodney Brown, 74, died Wednesday night in a Newport News nursing home after an extended illness. He was a retired merchant, a veteran of World War I and a member of Union Baptist Church.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Esther B. Brown of Hayes; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Pehrs of La Cressenta, Calif. and Mrs. Robert L. Poole of Newport News; four sisters, Mrs. Clifton Diggs and Mrs. William Penn of Newport News, Mrs. Volly Heywood of Perrin and Miss Lesbia Brown of Chester; three grandchildren, and one great-grand-child.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, by the Rev. Archer V. Turner, pastor, and the Rev. Frank L. Seal, pastor of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. The body will be moved from the chapel of Hogg Funeral Home and placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Gloucester Point Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight in the funeral home.
