NEWPORT NEWS - Lesbia Lola Brown, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 26. She was a native of Gloucester County who had made her home at the Newport News Baptist Retirement Community for the past four years. She was a member of Union Baptist Church, Achilles.

Miss Brown was a 1930 graduate of the College of William and Mary and a member of the college's Olde Guard. She had taught and served as a principal in the Gloucester County School System and retired in 1969 from Thomas Dale School in Chesterfield County.

She was a member of the York River Circle of King's Daughters and was active in the Newport News RSVP program, where she taught English to foreign-born wives of servicemen.

Survived by a sister, Hawsie B. Penn of Grafton; a nephew and a number of nieces.

Visitation from 7 to 8 tonight at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mrs. Penn, 10009 Showalter Road, Grafton.

Funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home by the Rev. David Pouchot and the Rev. George Kissinger. Burial in Gloucester Point Cemetery. Memorials to the Newport News Baptist Retirement Community, 955 Harpersville Road, Newport News 23606.
