Dr. AlDean Washburn, age 68, of Provo passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 1995, at his home of cancer.

He was born in Blanding, Utah on September 27, 1926, to Alvin LaVell and Wasel Black Washburn. He married Clara Broderick on September 6, 1949, in the Manti LDS Temple. She later passed away. He married Luzon Eyres on June 15, 1990, in the Provo LDS Temple.

AlDean attended five years at BYU, where he graduated in Educational Administration and was in the Masters program. He graduated from dental school at USC. He taught math at Blanding High School, BYU and USC. He coached basketball at Blanding High. He build several successful dental practices in Whittier, Trona, and Ridgecrest, California; and in Provo and Murray, Utah.

He was an active member of the LDS Church, and was dedicated in his church callings. He served two missions and held numerous church positions, including stake president and stake patriarch in California and Provo.

He was known for his many outstanding character traits, especially his integrity, generosity, love of people and, most importantly, his passionate dedication and love for his family. He was a great man and will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his wife, Luzon Washburn of Provo; children, Berk Washburn of Whitelake, Michigan, Ann Smith of Provo, Allen Washburn of Highland, Linda Wehner of Madison, Indiana, Andy Washburn of Westminster, Calif., Hugh Washburn of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Ruth Sulz of Orem, Sam Washburn of Provo, Sarah Monson of Victorville, Calif., Joe Washburn of Provo, Cathy Thurston and Dan Washburn, both of Salt Lake, Lynnette Christensen and Laurie Jones, both of American Fork, Todd Eyres of Springville, and Tracy Eyres of Parker, Colo.

Also brothers and sisters, Verd Hughes of Mesquite, Nev., Vella Hawkins of Provo, Lark Washburn of Mesa, Ariz., J. Ballard Washburn of West Jordan, Val Gene Ogles of Brigham City, Velyn Nichols of Nebraska, Veloy Hansen of Alpine, and Virginia Oldroyd of Provo.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Berk Washburn, and both of his parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 3, 1995, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Hills Stake Center, 865 East North Temple Drive, Provo. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, and from 9-10 a.m. on the morning of services at the church. Interment will take place at Provo City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo.
