Veloy Washburn Hansen
1935 - 2012
Our dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Veloy Washburn Hansen, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2012 surrounded by her family. Born September 16, 1935 in Blanding, Utah, to Alvin Lavell and Wasel Black Washburn, she was the ninth of ten children. Her family later moved to Provo, Utah where she graduated from BY High School.
Veloy attended Brigham Young University where she met the love of her life, Ray Hansen. Veloy and Ray were married in the Salt Lake City temple on June 13, 1957.
Veloy loved to sing, to dance, to read; she loved the ballet and the arts. Most of all, she loved to hold and rock her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and sing them songs and tell them stories. Her family was the focus of her life. Veloy was a devoted and remarkable mother who found great joy in creating a loving and welcoming home.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many positions. She loved the temple and served as a temple worker for a number of years; most recently in the Oquirrh Mountain temple.
Veloy is survived by her husband Ray, and her 11 children Don, Ron, Jon, Kimball, Randall, Darlyn, McKay, Chelynn, Mary Jo, Sheri and Shannan, 54 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 11am at the Hamilton Ridge Stake Center, 5562 West 13680 South, Herriman, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday evening August 24 from 6 to 8pm at the Broomhead Funeral Home, 12600 South 2200 West, Riverton, Utah and on Saturday morning at the Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:30am prior to the services.
