In April 1893 Feike immigrates with his parents and siblings from the dairy farmers village Oldetrijne to the Platte area, Charles Mix County, South Dakota and his usual name becomes Fred. He went to school in Oldetrijne and Castalia Township.
On April 22, 1908 Fred Groen married to Jentje (Jennie) Winters, who had Friesian parents too, and they moved to a farm on the northeast quarter of section 28 in Carrol Township, Charles Mix, some miles northeast of Platte and northwest of the Dutch settlement New Holland in Douglas County. Over a period of 16 years they got ten children.
Fred became ill and died at the age of 51 years.
