Henry Crouse, was born in Indiana in November, 1839. "He enlisted as a private in the 71st Ind. Vol. but met with the sad fate that befell many brave northern men. It was his lot to be captured and made a prisoner and was taken to the famous hell-hole, known as Libby Prison at Richmond, Va. The privation he suffered none can ever tell. The burden of such was more than he could bear and he died there." From The Democrat, Spencer, Owen County, Indiana - September 17, 1886
