James Gary Kimbrel and Lola ‘GiGi’ (Brown) Kimbrel Biography

James Gary Kimbrel was Millie Milbria Annice (Cook) Kimbrel, and Jeremiah K. (Dink) Kimbrel’s tenth child but seventh living child. James Gary Kimbrel was born in Miller County, Georgia on July 7, 1894. Stephen Grover Cleveland was our 24th. President when James was born.
James Gary was probably the most handsome of all of the boys in the Jeremiah K. (Dink) Kimbrel family and was somewhat conceited. He married his 3rd. cousin Lola ‘GiGi’ Brown on September 18, 1918. Lola was a very beautiful lady with big brown eyes and dark hair. They moved from Miller County to Wauchula, Florida (US-17) and Gary owned a Pool Hall in Wauchula. In 1924 their daughter Earlene was born, and they lived several more years in Wauchula and they would drivee up to Miller County to visit the Kimbrel family members which they loved so much. Jim, Lola and Earlene were always dressed in nice clothes and riding in a nice looking automobile and they would stop at their family members home and sit in the car and talk to the several family members which were standing outside in their farm work clothes and Earlene would sit in the back seat looking like a beautiful doll, big brown eyes like her mother and dark hair in long curls. After a few years James and Lola were divorced, probably because of James excessive drinking, and Lola and Earlene moved to Tampa, Florida to live with Lola’s parents, Belle F. Brown, and Charles R. Brown. James moved back to Miller County to live with his older sister Gertrude Kimbrel. James had no money when he moved in with Gertrude, but he still dressed nice. About this time Babcock built two new houses on Dutch Cook Road between Gertrude’s house and Nancy (Kimbrel) Sheffield’s house and James had straighten out from his drinking and could see the potential to make good if he rented one of the Babcock farmlands and start over, so that is what he did. Then he got remarried to Lola and brought them back to Miller County Georgia to live in the new house. Lola had help in the house which no one else had. Earlene was a Junior in Miller County High School and was probably the most talented girl in school. She sang, danced, and played the piano. James did not make it while farming and his drinking started again so Lola and Earlene went back to Tampa. James worked during World War II, and soon came back to Miller County in bad shape with secrecies of the liver and was in the hospital a lot to have fluid drawn off so that he could keep going and he died on March 2, 1947 and was buried in Cooks Union Cemetery in Miller County, Georgia. Lola and Earlene continued to live in Tampa Florida and Lola died on March 14, 1971 and was buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida.
