Cornwell on December 26, 1932, and raised four sons, Billy Joe, Lee Roy, Tommie, and Stephen, and one daughter, Nina Sue. Bertha was a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church for many years and was employed as manager of the lunchroom at Valley Springs School, Skyland, NC.
