Mr. Gant was born March 10, 1923 in Haywood County. He was a son of the late Robert "Bob" Lee Gant and the late Mattie Humphries Gant. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County and retired from Champion International paper mill in 1986 with 36 years of dedicated service and was a Champion Oldtimer. He was a United States Navy Veteran having honorably served in World War II on the US Landing Craft Flak 6 and was in the first wave of the D-Day invasion of Omaha Beach, France. Mr. Gant was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Superintendent of Sunday School and a Sunday School teacher He also played a vital role in the construction of the new Crestview Baptist Church sanctuary. Mr. Gant enjoyed spending time mowing his lawn, gardening and working jigsaw puzzles. Theodore Gant loved his God, loved his family, and loved his country.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by nine sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Martha Stamey Gant; a daughter, Pat Rhodes and her husband, Ronald Rhodes of Webster ; grandchildren, Brian Hall of Canton and Eric Hall and his wife, Amy Hall of Greeneville, TN ; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. The Reverend Larry Sprinkle and the Reverend Ned Webb will officiate. Entombment will be in The Horizon at Crawford / Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde.
