A native of Buncombe County, Bernice lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mattie Humphries Gant and the wife of Horace N. Sharpe, who died in 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of the Dutch Cove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ray Gant, who died in 1944 while serving in the U. S. Army during World War II. She is survived by her sisters Edna Norris, Ruby Ashe and Helen Clubb of Canton, and Bertha Cornwell of Arden; brothers Wiley and Theodore Gant of Canton.
