Fred W. Cole

KENNEBUNK - Fred W. Cole, 78, of the Heath Road, a retired Boston and Maine Railroad engineer, died yesterday in a Biddeford hospital after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 7, 1886, in Oakfield, he was the son of Charles E. and Ablerthina (Daggett) Cole. He retired from railroad service in July of 1962, and was a member of Portland Local 542, Intenational Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers. He had been a Kennebunk resident for the past 41 years.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Maud (Emery) Cole; five sons, Stanley W., Charles F., Lloyd E., Frederick D., and David R., all of this town; a step-son, Floyd MacKenzie, Midway; seven daughters, Mrs. Freda Chadbourne, Wells, Mrs. Iava Dowd, Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Effie Patch, Farmington, N.H., Mrs. Laura Palmer, Newbury Park, Calif., Mrs. Fannie Webber, Mrs. Katherine Ames and Mrs, Alberta Pierce, all of Kennebunk: two step-daughters, Mrs. Mildred Geroutte of California, and Mrs. Wilbury Sawyer, Kittery Point; a sister, Mrs. Effie Brown, Erie, Pa.; 44 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., where friends may call this afternoon and evening from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9.
