Born near Midland in 1854 and died below Catlett in 1924. He and his 2nd wife Angeline Kane Heflin were farmers. They owned a farm on Route 607 (now Shenandoah Path)with 300 acres. Prior to that they lived in various locations including near Sowego and near the Cedar Run Bridge - where it is supposed they were renting land. His first wife, Roberta Butler, died, leaving several children. James and Angie had children, also, the youngest being Ruben A. Heflin, born 1896 - my father. Other children were Roger Heflin, Gerry Gelesper (called Guy), and Lillian Heflin Godfrey (Lillie), wife of Henry Godfrey.
James Wm. had several children as well from his first marriage to Roberta Butler including: Morris (never married, b.1881 and d. 1947), Lizzie (Elizabeth Heflin Robertson, Nov.25,1884 to Jan. 18, 1964, married to Daniel Webster Robinson) and another daughter, Miriam Heflin O'Roark, wife of Clarence O'Roark.
I have never been able to locate the gravesite of his first wife, Roberta Butler Heflin.
