Jeremiah Heflin, a son of John Heflin and Mary Ann Kerns Heflin, was born near Midland and died at Catlett. He was married to Emily Eliza Kane of the Bealeton Kanes. During the Civil War, he served with distinction in the famed Army of Northern Virginia and was considered an officer. After the war he was the first person to hold what would now be considered Commissioner of the Revenue position in Fauquier County.
