James, 96, 950 Pinebrook Rd., Venice, formerly Sidney, died at 2:37 a.m., at Harborchase of Venice.

He was a son to Talmage and Bertha (Shively) Clayton. On Dec 7, 1944, he married Elsie Louise Fogt, Anna, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are three brothers, Kenneth L., Quincy, Robert P., Orlando, FL, and Dr. Dennis L., Celina.

Deceased are a brother, Donald C.; and four sisters, Amy C. Clayton, Georgia L. "Linda" Coe, Edna R. May and Elizabeth J. "Betty" Willoughby.

He graduated from Anna High School with the class of 1932. He was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) for several years. He served in the US Army from 1941 until 1945 (WWII) serving in Alaska and the European Theater. He worked as a cabinet maker and carpenter in Sidney, for many years. In 1962 he and his wife Elsie relocated to Piqua, where he worked in the US Post Office for 18 years retiring in 1980. After retirement they relocated to Venice, where they spent their retirement years.

Funeral Services are at the Cromes Funeral Home, with Revs. Michael Althauser and Steve Clayton officiating.
